Edna Karr High School celebrated academic and athletic excellence this morning with a signing ceremony honoring seven scholars as they committed to colligate sports.

Balah Muhammad, De'Antray Hughes, Daja Bell, Michael Clements, Deonte Ford, Sierra Sessions, and Malaysia Sinegal signed Letters of Intent for their chosen colleges in front of friends, family, and Edna Karr faculty.

"We are here today to celebrate our academics and our athletics. We are very proud of the legacy of our athletes and we look forward to recognizing their achievement every year," said Edna Karr Athletic Director Taurus Howard. "We want to make sure students get all the attention they deserve."

These seven join an additional thirteen students of the Class of 2019 who signed Letters of Intent for football scholarships earlier this year.

"Our athletes play more than just football," Howard said, adding he hopes the spring signing continues to grow and someday will match that of the football signing day.

Today, both students and parents signed their letters, declaring their intentions post-graduation.

Muhammad will be playing football at Lyon College.

Hughes will play basketball for Baton Rouge Community College.

Bell signed with Louisiana College for volleyball.

Clements and Ford will join the track team at Jackson State University.

Sessions and Sinegal will also be on the track and field team at Southern University.

"We are so very proud of each of you," Edna Karr Academy Principal Ingrid Jackson told the athletes. "We expect great things from you, and we look forward to hearing about your great accomplishments. I will miss you."
