Love of Literacy

InspireNOLA promotes Rally to Read
Posted on 02/03/2022

InspireNOLA will be promoting “A Love for Literacy” across the network this month as we kicked off our Rally-to-Read 100 Challenge!

Throughout the month, we encourage all teachers to make “Drop Everything and Read” (D.E.A.R.) time a sacred 10-15 minutes every day. Our goal? 100 books read per class by February 24.

Also, research proves that “Read Alouds” to students can build strong fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. With this being said, a team of volunteers, teachers and school leaders will read aloud to kindergarten & first grade classes on February 14.

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.” —Kofi Annan

We at InspireNOLA are here to give our students hope and help them fulfill one of the three E’s — enrollment, enlistment, employment — and become successful citizens in their community.  It is our duty to provide them with every tool they need to succeed. This is why it is vital we have 100 percent of our students reading at or above grade level!

“To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.” – Victor Hugo

Let’s light the fire of a love of reading in all our students this month!
