NEW ORLEANS — The Culinary Queens of New Orleans have officially named its “Excellence in Band” award after Mr. Christopher Herrero, Director of Bands at Edna Karr High School.

The Culinary Queens of New Orleans, also known as The Krewe of TCQNO, made Carnival history on February 22, 2022 as the the first to roll on the Westbank of unincorporated Jefferson Parish in 30 years.

As a result of a local high school student being tragically killed near the parade route days before the parade, participating school band leaders made the decision to pull their bands from the parade, citing parents’ concerns about safety. The award-winning Edna Karr Marching Band was the only school band to show up and perform for the historic parade debut.

Every year, the band that is awarded First Place in the Culinary Queens of New Orleans parade will receive “The Chris Herrero Excellence in Band” first place trophy named in honor of Mr. Christopher Herrero.
