Position Summary 
The Security Counselor’s main responsibility is to patrol a school campus and adjacent property to ensure the safety of InspireNOLA’s students and staff.  This Security Counselor supervises students and staff while on campus and throughout school activities, and assisting in the enforcement of InspireNOLA policies and regulations. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities  
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
Coordinate and participate in the training of students and staff in conflict resolution strategies and mediation techniques; 
Train security counselor staff on how to properly prepare written reports of incidents, and maintain accurate security records, logs and reports; 
Patrol and monitor hallways, stairwells, bathrooms, cafeteria, outside facilities, and other public and unsupervised places of the school to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and the security of the InspireNOLA facilities; 
Ensure doors/gates are opened and locked at designated times determined by the Head of School; 
Ensure a smooth traffic flow of students through the hallways, assisting students with arriving to class and class transitions; 
Assist with supervision for breakfast and lunch periods, and morning arrival and afternoon dismissal; 
Monitor campus during school hours to prevent fires, theft, vandalism and illegal entry; 
Provide consistent supervision of students who are outside of class; 
Investigates and secures buildings at the request of Head of School, or other administration; 
Maintain alertness and proactively anticipate any problems likely to disrupt the educational process or to be injurious to persons or property; 
Operate a two-way radio to communicate with school and security personnel; 
Take steps to correct or report conditions hazardous to the health and safety of students and staff; 
Remain alert to potential gang member presence in the building, including signals and the wearing of specific colors; 
Notify supervisor, as appropriate, of any suspicious or dangerous activities on or near campus and communicates with school staff via portable radio; 
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (continued) 
Establish a positive working relationship with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the school community; 
Assist students in resolving conflicts in a positive and constructive manner through the use of conflict resolution strategies and mediation techniques; 
Respond to calls regarding classroom disturbances, behavior problems or related situations; 
Refer students to appropriate administrator in cases of flagrant or repeated violations of school regulations, and assist teachers when requested in dealing with unruly students; 
Screen all persons entering school grounds to ensure they are properly authorized; 
Prevent unauthorized persons from entering school grounds, and report their presence to the proper authorities; 
Direct traffic and parking on school grounds; check vehicles for proper parking authorization; 
Participates in fire drills and other emergency building evacuations; may be responsible for activating/de-activating smoke/fire/ intrusion alarm and securing the building; 
Maintain positive and effective working relationships with school police services personnel and local law enforcement agencies and representatives; 
As directed by school principal or designee, intervene appropriately in situations likely to result in disruption or injury and impose appropriate consequences for pupil conduct; 
Prepare and maintain a variety of required state and local statistical reports, records, and files; 
Adjust schedule to accommodate assignment to a variety of student activities. 

Position Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; 
Minimum of 3-5 years of prior security/law enforcement experience;
In addition to daily responsibilities, the Senior Security Counselor will operate as a mentor and point person for the InspireNOLA security counselor team;
Possess strong interpersonal skills, and operate consistently with tact, patience, and courtesy; 
Plan and execute relevant professional development for the Security Counselor team;
Monitor compliance with firearm certification and all relevant paperwork/certifications for teams
Must be a clear, experienced communicator (verbal and written) who can comfortably represent InspireNOLA and the security counselors in varied external settings (i.e. community events, the courts)
Must be licensed to carry a firearm in the State of Louisiana, and have passed all required courses, including earning Certification from Louisiana State board of Private Security Examiners; 
Must own and carry a weapon at all times while on duty (weapon to be designated by InspireNOLA); 
Must successfully pass a drug screening test, have a current Louisiana Driver’s License and be able to drive;
Operate a computer and related software applications;

The Security Counselor reports to the Head of School.
