Position Summary
InspireNOLA Charter Schools is seeking passionate, talented, and dedicated ASL Paraprofessional. Their job is to offer support throughout the instructional day of school, as indicated by the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). ASL Paraprofessionals utilize a range of communication techniques from American Sign Language (ASL) to signed exact English (SEE), cues and signals, depending on the student's needs and educational goals. We are pursuing candidates who are committed to the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of our students and who have a strong desire to continuously develop in their profession.
Position Qualifications & Competencies
· Belief in the mission and values of InspireNOLA;
· Experience working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students (required);
· Background in oral education/Listening & Spoken Language (preferred);
· Ability to communicate via ASL (American Sign Language) with students;
· Two or more years of experience (preferred);
· Ability to work collaboratively with the school team, families, and community members;
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
· Effectively facilitate communication among Hard of Hearing students and their hearing peers, mainstream classroom teachers, and other personnel in the school system through the use of American Sign Language and spoken English.
· Serve as the liaison between the Hard of Hearing (HH) Program and mainstream programs.
· Interpret all mainstream classes for HH students.
· Support the needs of students and teachers as determined by the IEP.
· Assist students with translation during the school day
· Conduct continuous monitoring of students' progress throughout the year.
· Participate enthusiastically in structured and informal learning and development opportunities, including seeking and accepting continual feedback from staff and administration.
· Employs amplification devices.
· Meets with parents, teachers, other professionals, and students to provide information and support regarding hearing loss.
· Develop appropriate IEP goals based on data and the educational needs of the child
· Exemplify InspireNOLA’s core values in all interactions with students and their families to demonstrate your commitment to students’ academic and behavioral success;
· Proactively manage student behavioral issues and adhere to school policies for infractions and incentives;
· Perform other additional duties as specified.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as TRSL, our employer retirement contribution, is included.
