Position Summary
The LPC is responsible for ensuring that the emotional and social needs of the students are met and maintained on an individual basis in accordance with policies and procedures, current federal and state standards, guidelines, and regulations so that it doesn’t interfere with the educational process. The LPC supports instructional programs by reviewing reports of team members, mentoring colleagues and supporting professional accountability. The LPC works cooperatively as an interdisciplinary team member to provide services and to devise an appropriate service plan for referred students and their families.
Position Qualifications:
• Master's Degree Social Work or Counseling
• PLPC or LMSW; Preferred: LPC or LCSW
• A minimum of three years of post-master’s degree experience in a social work setting, providing social work services, in particular working with children, youth and families.
• Effectively communicate the needs of students and families (verbal and written).
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Build trusting relationships with students, families, and school personnel
• Collaborate with all school personnel to assess student’s social and emotional obstacles to success
• Provide home visits to meet families to address barriers to learning
• Coordinate services for students and families which may involve referrals to community support agencies
• Provide crisis intervention, counseling services and the coordination of provided services from various support agencies
• Help families understand school policies, services and programs
• Assist teachers and principals in developing plans to help students with academic and behavior barriers
• Mediate matters as it relates to the student’s needs between school and family
• Ability to work with a team of teachers and other ancillary staff members in crisis situations
• Follow up on student issues referred by parent, teacher, administrator or students
• Develop, facilitate, coordinate prevention activities and intervention services
• Member of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support team/RTI behavior support team
• Participate in the identification of students who are in need of exceptional services
• Participate in the Individualized Education Program process and development
• Monitors school attendance and develop methods to promote school attendance
• Maintains case files and records to track/monitor that status of student progress
• Provide professional development and in-services to school personnel
• Maintain confidentiality of student and family issues and records
• Provides in-service training and workshops for teachers and staff regarding mental health issues and proper procedures for the identification and referral of students.
• Organizes and conducts specialized programs to include parent training classes and student support activities.
• Serves as a liaison between the network office and the school-based social workers.
• Provides crisis intervention services
• Facilitates interactions between administrators and DCFS/EPS or other agencies.
• Develops and maintains accurate and comprehensive behavioral health records per school district policy
• Attends professional workshops, in-services and peer consultation to encourage continued professional growth to maintain license as mandated by the State Board.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by school district leadership
