Position Summary
The School Nurse—as a member of the InspireNOLA school team—is successful when students have a clean, healthy, and safe learning environment, when we provide teachers and leaders the resources and systems to achieve InspireNOLA’s mission, and when we empower our staff to maximize their individual and collaborative performance.  The School Nurse does this by providing preventative health services to facilitate students’ optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development.

Position Qualifications & Competencies
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing, (Masters degree preferred)
Minimum two years experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably specializing in the care of children/adolescents
Eligible for certification by the Louisiana Department of Education as a School Nurse

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
By the end of October, 100% of students have up to date immunization records (or appropriate waivers or notifications of deficiency) on file with at least 95% of students having immunizations.  (9th and 11th are reportable grades; reported Nov 1 and Jan 31.)
By the end of the first semester, 100% of all students in grades 9th & 11th grades will have vision and hearing screenings.
At least 5 times a year, create and deliver learning sessions to parents, students, or staff to inform them about health issues, solutions, and resources.

Plan and implement school health management protocols.
Develop procedures and provide for emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses.
Serve as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction.
Coordinate school and community health activities and serve as a liaison health professional between the home, school and community.
Create Emergency Health Plans and Individual Health Plans for students in need.
Participate in the IEP plan development and meetings when appropriate.
Work collaboratively with other school nurses to develop training programs for InspireNOLA staff.
Obtain students' health history, review and evaluate history and provide health assessments (with a   special focus on students with regular medications, asthma, seizures, diabetes, and other identified health needs).
Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.
Screen and evaluate findings of deficit in vision, hearing, growth, etc.
Provide ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel or health agencies.
Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
The school nurse reports to the Head of School.
