Position Summary
The School Nurse—as a member of the InspireNOLA school team—is successful when students have a clean, healthy, and safe learning environment, when we provide teachers and leaders the resources and systems to achieve InspireNOLA’s mission, and when we empower our staff to maximize their individual and collaborative performance. The school nurse supports the emotional, mental,
physical and social health of students.

Position Qualifications & Competencies
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing, (Masters degree preferred)
· Minimum two years’ work experience in the healthcare industry, preferably specializing in the care of children/adolescents
· Eligible for certification by the Louisiana Department of Education as a School Nurse
· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
The school nurse will be active in creating and building upon InspireNOLA’s health program. Duties will include both delivery and coordination of health services.
● The school nurse will implement and coordinate health programs to enhance health and wellness in the school community.
● All duties must be performed following standards of professional nurse care and practice.
● Maintaining individual student health folders and medical logs.
● Create and maintain individual health care plans and emergency health plans for students with medical concerns.
● Meet as a member of IEP/504 teams, gather information, and input intervention strategies.
● Maintain a medication administration/specialized procedures folder with valid physician orders.
● Coordinate and conduct annual Vision and hearing screenings—Follow-up screenings for vision and hearing failures.
● Ensure students have met minimum immunization requirements for school entry. Update student immunization records list for annual reports in Louisiana LINKS database.
● Other related duties as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
● Must have computer skills required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
● Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
● Excellent organizational skills.
● Excellent time management skills
