Position Summary
InspireNOLA Charter Schools is seeking passionate, talented, and dedicated individuals for an 8-hour custodian position. An 8-hour custodian is responsible for cleaning the inside of buildings and other facilities, performing minor maintenance, and moving furniture and office equipment; ensures that assigned duties are completed and are done well within the area assigned. We are pursuing candidates who are committed to the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth of our students and who have a strong desire to continuously develop in their profession.
Position Qualifications & Competencies
• Belief in the mission and values of InspireNOLA;
• Proven experience as custodian, janitor, or in a similar role
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
• Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
• Familiarity with basic landscaping and handyman practices
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness
• Very good physical condition and strength
• High school diploma is preferred but not required
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Maintaining floor and furniture cleaning supplies.
• Summer Work schedule including floor prep, waxing and refinishing.
• Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces
• Sweep and mop floors and vacuum carpets
• Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap, toilet tissue and paper towels)
• Wipe mirrors and windows
• Maintain outer premises by cleaning entrances
• Report major damages to maintenance staff.
• Undertake occasional custodial and janitorial tasks (shoveling snow from the sidewalk, lifting heavy items, moving chairs etc.)
• Act as an ambassador in any setting, supporting both the school’s mission and handbooks; support students in both the context of the job and involvement in their extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, kneel, crouch, bend, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• The position involves daily exposure to cleaning agents, including bleach
• Perform other additional duties as specified.
Essential Duties include but are not limited to cleaning the following:
• Entrances, Lobbies, and Corridors
• Classrooms and laboratories
• Offices, lounges, and conference rooms
• Restrooms, Locker rooms, Showers and Dressing Areas
• Cafeterias and lunch areas
• Gyms, locker rooms and multipurpose rooms
